United Way Coats For Kids Campaign

Coats For Kids

Visualize your child not having a winter coat to wear when Northwest Ohio’s winter hits. Your children must struggle in the days of blowing snow and slushy streets while walking to school because they don’t have warm coats and waterproof snow boots to wear. We as parents do everything we can to provide the necessities for our children in which they need to ensure their safety and health. In our area, one of those necessities is a warm winter coat. Unfortunately some families in our community have difficulty in providing for their children and have no choice but to rely on the generosity of others in our community to help keep their children warm and safe from the harsh winter elements.

That’s where the Coats for Kids program comes in.  Coats for Kids is an initiative of United Way of Paulding County.  We applied for and received a grant from Paulding Putnam’s Operation Roundup.  This is a charitable program which Paulding Putnam Electric customers can choose to “roundup” their electric bill to the next whole dollar and the change was then redistributed to organizations to help community needs programs.  UWPC received $3,400.00 in which to purchase winter outerwear which consisted of coats, hats, scarves, gloves and snow boots.  We worked in conjunction with the Salvation Army which hosts the Christmas for Kids program for Paulding County.  Applications that were received by the Salvation Army requesting any form of outerwear were forwarded to United Way.

Ninety children in our community received coats and more from our Coats for Kids distribution, who would otherwise have had to brave our cold winter without a warm jacket to wear. Thanks to the generosity of our Paulding Putnam Electric community who chose to donate and the Operation Roundup Allocation Board, those 90 children can zip up their new heavy coats, pull on their gloves and hats, and have warm dry feet while trekking off to school or out building the perfect snowman.

The United Way of Paulding County would like to thank all of its generous partners;  the Salvation Army, the sorting and distribution volunteers, the OSU Extension Center for its donation of the facility which housed the distribution and the many people in our community who support this great program.

THE COMMUNITY WE BUILD.  THE LIVES WE CHANGE.  THE BOTTOM LINE RESULTS.  THAT IS HOW WE LIVE UNITED.
